The Welcoming Machine

This machine is not built of carefully tooled metal
It is not made of diodes and circuit boards
This machine is made of statistics
It's made of fears
Made of helplessness
Of artificial convenience
This machine is not just the infrastructure that we build
It's the ideas we agree with
Or ideas we are convinced of
This machine watches your weaknesses
It tracks your interests
It will print you a new ticket designed just for you
It wants to know you
It wants to be able to comprehend you
So the ticket it prints will satisfy you
And when you accept the ticket
You accept the formula that made it
You tell the machine that it is good enough
And the machine is happy that you are happy
Because now it can understand you
And you are no closer to understanding it
